Pallet Flow Rack in Draper, UT

Pallet flow rack in Draper can keep older consumer-goods receipts moving toward dispatch while replenishment happens behind the picking operation. Pallets enter the loading face, travel along inclined gravity rollers, and leave from the opposite face. That arrangement supports FIFO without sending a lift truck into the storage lane, provided the assigned stock fits its physical queue.

Start with the products that repeatedly occupy several pallet positions, especially dated retail goods with steady outbound demand. E-commerce assortments often include both fast sellers and scattered promotional stock. Separate those groups before choosing lane depths; a slow SKU assigned an oversized lane can consume space needed by products that turn every shift.

Pallet flow rack separates replenishment from dispatch

Opposing working faces let receiving crews place pallets without sharing the retrieval aisle with outbound trucks. The drawing must preserve turning and staging space at both ends. A dense storage block loses its handling advantage when completed orders accumulate in the discharge aisle or incoming loads wait across the replenishment approach.

Gravity rollers move each pallet toward the picking end as the preceding load is removed. Brakes and speed controllers regulate travel for the specified load range rather than leaving acceleration unchecked. Review the lightest and heaviest expected pallets because similar packaging dimensions do not mean identical rolling behavior.

FIFO describes the physical sequence within an assigned lane, not automatic expiration management across the building. Identify each lane by SKU and track receipt dates or lots. If newer stock arrives with an earlier expiration date, inventory instructions must address that exception before it enters a queue that prevents independent retrieval.

Draper fulfillment routes and two-face access

Around Draper Industrial Park and the 12300 South corridor, last-mile delivery and retail distribution can generate overlapping replenishment and dispatch waves. Connections to I-15 make shipment timing relevant, but internal aisle separation determines whether those waves interfere. We operate as a division of Warehouse Equipment & Supplies Co., supplying and installing warehouse equipment since 1997.

Gravity flow rack checks for repeatable pallet movement

    1

    Underside construction

Document runner direction, bottom boards, openings, and pallet dimensions. The roller arrangement must support the actual bearing surfaces throughout travel, including the transition into the discharge position.

    2

    Pallet condition

Screen for broken boards, protruding fasteners, loose wrapping, and distorted loads. A damaged pallet can drag or stop even when another pallet of the same nominal size travels normally.

    3

    Lane length and slope

Choose depth from inventory per SKU and available building length. Establish slope with the flow-system specification and representative testing, accounting for load behavior rather than assuming one incline fits every application.

    4

    Controlled discharge

Review speed-controller placement, end stops, and any pallet separator required by the design. Confirm how the leading pallet is removed without uncontrolled pressure from the loads queued behind it.

Pallet flow racking versus single-face reserves

Pushback uses one working face and normally retrieves the newest pallet first, creating LIFO within each lane. It can suit undated reserve stock where opposite-side access is impractical. Gravity-fed FIFO storage instead needs two accessible faces and enough repeated inventory to justify dedicating lanes to particular products.

Check occupancy during ordinary weeks, not only the largest seasonal receipt. A lane holding one SKU cannot freely lend its empty rear positions to unrelated stock without complicating retrieval. Multiple shorter lanes may serve fluctuating retail replenishment better than a smaller number of deep lanes sized around a temporary promotion.

Keep carton picking separate from full-pallet movement where orders require individual cases. Pallet lanes can supply a downstream case-picking area, but they do not replace carton-sized tracks. Map replenishment quantities and picking frequency together so the reserve queue feeds demand without turning the discharge face into informal case storage.

Compare lane depth against your shipping waves for pallet flow racking

Send normal and peak inventory by SKU, dispatch quantities, pallet photographs, and a drawing showing both proposed working faces. Include shift overlaps and any expiration rules. Those details support a discussion of roller compatibility, braking, usable lane depth, and the floor area retained for handling. (801) 942-0493.
